FAYETTEVILLE — Almost everything about Arkansas’ 2019 baseball season has resembled 2018.

Add super regional host to the list of similarities.

The No. 5 Razorbacks defeated TCU 6-0 Sunday night in from of 9,134 at Baum-Walker Stadium to win the NCAA Fayetteville Regional - the program’s sixth regional win since 2009.

Arkansas (44-17) will likely host No. 18 Ole Miss in the super regional that will begin either Friday or Saturday. The Rebels led Jacksonville State 18-2 in its regional final at the time Arkansas' game ended Sunday night.

The super regional schedule will be released Tuesday morning.

The Razorbacks shut down TCU for the second consecutive night to win the regional in the minimum number of games. The Horned Frogs played twice Sunday. TCU defeated Central Connecticut 9-5 in an elimination game that ended about three hours before the nightcap began.

The start of the game was delayed 30 minutes because of a lightning delay and did not begin until 8:30 p.m.

Arkansas jumped on the Horned Frogs quickly, scoring three runs against TCU starter Jared Janczak in the first inning. Dominic Fletcher doubled with one out to score Casey Martin and Matt Goodheart, and Jack Kenley added a two-run double to scored Fletcher.

The Razorbacks had four hits in the inning.

TCU (34-28) never really threatened the Arkansas lead. Freshman left hander Patrick Wicklander struck out seven batters over five scoreless innings to earn his sixth victory of the season.

Cody Scroggins (2 2/3 innings) and Jacob Kostyshock (1 1/3 innings) combined to shut out the Horned Frogs over the final four innings.

The Razorbacks’ pitchers combined for 14 strikeouts and recorded the team’s fifth shutout of the season.

Arkansas extended its lead to 5-0 on Goodheart’s two-run home run with two outs in the fifth inning. Goodheart’s homer on a 2-2 offering from Janczak traveled 380 feet.

Goodheart recorded three hits and scored two runs.

The Razorbacks added a run in the eighth inning when Kenley singled to score Fletcher from second base. Fletcher reached on a fielder’s choice and stole second.

TCU had base runners in five innings, but stranded all six. The Horned Frogs’ best chance to score came against Wicklander in the fourth inning when Johnny Rizer singled and Zach Humphreys doubled with two outs, but the half inning ended when Andrew Keefer popped up to Trevor Ezell at first base.

TCU came close to scoring against Scroggins in the sixth inning. After pinch hitter Bobby Goodloe doubled down the right field line with one out, first baseman Conner Shepherd hit a deep fly ball that Fletcher, the center fielder, caught at the warning track.

Arkansas out-hit TCU 10-5 and held the Horned Frogs to nine hits in two games.

The Razorbacks are in the super regional round for the eighth time overall and seventh time under 17th-year head coach Dave Van Horn. Super regionals did not exist before 1999.

Arkansas has won five of its six super regionals under Van Horn, including last season when it defeated South Carolina two of three times in Fayetteville.

The Razorbacks are hosting a super regional for the third time since 2015. Arkansas has never lost a home super regional.

This is the second time the Razorbacks have advanced to the super regionals in consecutive seasons, and the first time since 2010.
