Couple held after motel-room search

Drugs found, Hot Springs police report

HOT SPRINGS -- A man and woman were arrested Wednesday morning on felony charges after Hot Springs police searched their motel room.

Christie Jewel Dunford, 48, and Dan Sharpe, 51, were taken into custody at the Top Park Motel, 316 Park Ave., shortly before 10 a.m. and charged with unauthorized use of another person's property to facilitate a crime and possession of drug paraphernalia; possession of methamphetamine with purpose to deliver and possession with purpose to deliver of a counterfeit substance; a misdemeanor count of possession of marijuana with purpose to deliver; and additional felony and misdemeanor counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Both remained in custody Thursday in lieu of $21,500 bond and are set to appear today in Garland County District Court.

According to the probable-cause affidavit, officers with the Hot Springs Police Department's Special Investigation Narcotics Unit served a warrant at the front office of the motel and then found Sharpe and Dunford in their motel room and took them into custody.

During a search of the room, detectives reported finding four bags of what later tested positive for meth, a total of 1.84 grams; three marijuana cigarettes and three bags of marijuana with a total weight of 2.96 grams; 10.14 grams of an unknown white crystal substance that appeared to be meth but tested negative; four meth pipes; six cut straws with residue; four marijuana pipes; a bong; multiple plastic bags with residue; two sets of digital scales; and three narcotics grinders.

The affidavit notes the couple's residence was owned by Park Avenue LLC and is about 340 feet from Tower of Strength Ministry at 315 Park Ave.

According to court records, Dunford had previous arrests for theft of property involving shoplifting and prostitution, but no felony charges. Sharpe had no record of arrests in Garland County.
