The Sandman's two-week Hawaiian vacation -- and the comically inept attempts by a "sleep clinic" to fill in for him -- was the synopsis of the skit highlighting this year's Curtain Call for a Cause.
Performed by the thespians of Arkansas Enterprises for the Developmentally Disabled's ACTS in the Rock drama troupe, "The Big Sleep" kicked off this year's Curtain Call, held for two nights at North Little Rock's Argenta Community Theater as an annual fundraiser for Arkansas Enterprises. ACTS stands for Acting Creates Therapeutic Success.
The first night of the event, May 30, began with a red-carpet reception complete with passed morsels, libations, a silent auction and a wine/liquor pull. Guests then moved to the auditorium for dinner and a program steered by Rob Evans, co-anchor for KTHV's THV This Morning. Also welcoming guests were Kevin Newton of CBM Construction, presenting sponsor, and Debbie Grooms, director of development for Arkansas Enterprises.
Missie and North Little Rock Mayor Joe Smith were honored with the agency's Spirit of Giving Award for their community work and support of Arkansas Enterprises.
A fund-a-need and live auction preceded the Curtain Call Show, produced by Vincent Insalaco and Christen Pitts. It featured dances and show tunes performed by various individuals and ensembles, including "Seize the Day" by the cast of the theater's production of the Broadway musical Newsies.
The event was a sellout both nights. Proceeds support meaningful work opportunities for adults served through Arkansas Enterprises' Jobs 4 You program.
