Contestants win awards in state scholarship pageants

— Several contestants with ties to the Three Rivers Edition coverage area received awards in the Miss Arkansas Scholarship Pageant, which culminated June 15 with the crowning of Miss Apple Blossom Darynne Dahlem of Greenwood as Miss Arkansas 2019.

Among the five semifinalists, finishing in the top six to 10 places and listed in random order, are the following:

• Miss Historic Batesville Ashley Ehrhart of Jonesboro is the 22-year-old daughter of Sherry Ehrhart and Thomas Micah and a graduate of Arkansas State University, where she majored in psychology. She received a $3,000 scholarship sponsored by the Miss Arkansas Scholarship Foundation.

Others receiving awards include the following:

• Miss Central Arkansas Kyla Soden of Cabot received the Overall Service Above Self Award, in the amount of $3,000 and provided by the Rotary Club of Little Rock No. 99.

She also received a Service Above Self Scholarship while competing in the Alpha Group of contestants on June 14; that award was a $1,000 scholarship, also given by the Rotary Club of Little Rock No. 99.

Soden is the 21-year-old daughter of Mike and Donya Soden and a senior biology major at Ouachita Baptist University.

• Miss River Delta Reagan Wheelis of Melbourne received the Mary Jane Mullins Non-Finalist Interview Award in the amount of $500 and provided by Dr. Patti Mullins, and a Legacy Scholarship of $500 given by Stephanie Duty.

Wheelis is the 21-year-old daughter of Dr. Brad and Tina Wheelis and a graduate of the University of Arkansas Walton School of Business, where she majored in accounting.

Several contestants with ties to the Three Rivers Edition coverage area also received awards in the Miss Arkansas’ Outstanding Teen Pageant, which culminated June 14 with the crowning of Miss White River’s Outstanding Teen Sarah Cate Lay of North Little Rock as Miss Arkansas’ Outstanding Teen 2019.

• Miss Greater Jacksonville’s Outstanding Teen Kory Lynn Jennings won the Miss Congeniality Award of $250 given by the Miss Arkansas Scholarship Foundation.

Jennings also received the Caught Ya Award on June 13, a $300 scholarship given by the Miss Arkansas Scholarship Foundation.

Jennings is the daughter of Cory and Sherri Jennings and a student at Cabot High School.

• Miss Historic Batesville’s Outstanding Teen Peyton Riley of Jonesboro received the Alpha Arrival Award (awards given to first-time contestants) during the opening night of competition on June 12. She also tied for the Alpha Fitness Award on June 13. Alpha Awards consist of $100 scholarships.

Riley is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Shon Riley and a student at Valley View High School.
