SATISFYING THEIR HUNGER

Legislators serve up feast, wield gavel to help out state’s hungry

Once again, a bevy of state legislators served up food in hopes of raising hunger-fighting tips during Serving Up Solutions, an annual benefit dinner whose 2019 incarnation took place June 13 at the Albert Pike Masonic Center of Little Rock.

Bobbi and Dustin McDaniel chaired the fundraiser for the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance and its programs. Apron-clad members of the Arkansas Legislative Hunger Caucus served as wait staff, working hard -- and briskly -- for tips that were earmarked for grants to hunger-relief organizations in their home districts. Former state Reps. Ann Clemmer and Stephanie Malone were the legislator chairmen.

Guests perused silent-auction items and sipped libations before sitting down to a four-course dinner prepared by chefs Matthew Bell of South on Main; Capi Peck of Trio's; Mary Beth Ringgold of Copper Grill and Capers; and Rosalia Monroe of Cafe Bossa Nova and Rosalia's Family Bakery. Bruce Maloch conducted a live auction that included a painting by Vickie Hendrix Siebenmorgen, diamond circle earrings, a 10-course dinner prepared by alliance Executive Director Kathy Webb, a trip to see a Dallas Mavericks home game, and a live painting by Barry Thomas.

Proceeds will go to support the mission of eliminating hunger, in which Arkansas ranks second in the nation.
