Jimmy Carter is taking a swipe at the legitimacy of Donald Trump's presidency, saying Russian interference in the 2016 election was responsible for putting Trump in the White House.

The 94-year-old former U.S. president said Friday that he believes Russia's meddling "if fully investigated would show that Trump didn't actually win the election in 2016." Carter said he believes Trump "lost the election" and became president "because the Russians interfered on his behalf."

Carter made the remarks during a panel discussion at a retreat in Leesburg, Virginia, for donors to the Carter Center. It was broadcast by CSPAN.

Panel moderator and historian Jon Meacham asked Carter if he believed Trump was "an illegitimate president."

Carter replied: "Based on what I just said, which I can't retract, I'd say yes."

There is simply no evidence anywhere that suggests Russia's meddling was what caused Hillary not to campaign in Wisconsin or call millions of honest, hard working Americans "deplorables". By making such an insane statement, Jimmy Carter is either wittingly or unwittingly helping Putin accomplish his goal of creating dissension among the American people. Tribalists like ermal and msh are blind to what exists before their very eyes. Sad. Really, really sad.

Actually HRC's ineptness and the DNC's meddling are what put DT over the finish line.

While Hillary screwed up many things in the election, if not for the hack of the DNC and the revelation that she had the debate questions in advance, she probably would have one. Note also, that Wiki decided to drop this info right after the damaging Trump tape came out. In a close election, something like this makes a difference.

I'm eager to see if Trump will be 1/1,000th the honorable man Carter is as an ex-President.

JA40.......A big difference is NO COUNTRY dared to take over an American enbassy, hold American embassy staff as prisoners for over a year, and face no repecussions.

I can not imagine ANY country contemplating that during a Trump presidency.

President Carter reacted just like Bernie Sanders did when two Black women from the HATE group Black Lives Matter took away his mic and cancelled his rally.......

BOTH bowed their head, backed up, and meekly acted like a freshly castrated steer.

A reason Hillary lost is she refused to take advice from Bill about campaign stops.

I wonder how many times Bill told Hillary......." I told you so "

All Hillary can do now is don those coke bottle horn rimmed glasses and angrily say to Bill ....." at this point, what difference does it make "

Too bad Hillary never took up pitching horse shoes where " close" counts for something.
