Former Arkansas juvie officers who pepper sprayed teens sentenced

LITTLE ROCK — Two former Arkansas juvenile detention officers have been sentenced to federal prison for allegedly assaulting teenage inmates at a northeast Arkansas facility and falsifying incident reports about the assaults.

Prosecutors said Thursday that former Lt. Dennis Fuller was sentenced to three years in prison, while former Officer Jason Benton received 30 months. Both also received two years of supervised release after they serve their sentences.

Fuller, Benton and another officer, former Capt. Peggy Kendrick, pleaded guilty in 2017 to various counts of conspiring to assault juvenile inmates and lying about the assaults on reports at the White River facility.

All three officers were accused of using pepper spray unnecessarily and, in some instances, refusing to let the teens wash the spray off.

Kendrick will be sentenced in April.
