Diversity events scheduled at UALR

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock will recognize diversity during a week of events this week.

The school has scheduled presentations and panels on LGBTQ issues, race, women's issues, immigration, incarceration and inclusion from Monday through Friday.

Hall of Fame coach to speak at Harding

National Football League Hall of Fame coach Tony Dungy will speak Thursday at Harding University as a part of its distinguished lecture series.

Dungy won a Super Bowl in 2007 with the Indianapolis Colts -- the first black head coach to win a Super Bowl title -- and is now an NFL analyst with NBC, a university release said.

He also has written numerous nonfiction books on sports, advice and religion, as well as children's books.

Dungy will speak at 7:30 p.m. at Benson Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.

French film festival is planned at UCA

The University of Central Arkansas' fourth annual Tournees French Film Festival begins April 2.

The school will show six films, each at 5:30 p.m. April 2, 4, 9, 11, 16 and 18. The first three films center on African and black issues, and the second three films center on contemporary issues in France.

The films are free and open to the public.

Panels and discussions that include the audience will take place afterward. University and Hendrix College faculty will facilitate them.

The films will be: I am Not Your Negro, Little by Little, Makala, Faces, Places, 12 days and My Journey Through French Cinemae."

The festival is hosted by the College of Liberal Arts and the Department of Languages, Linguistics, Literatures, and Cultures and the African and African-American Studies Program.

The festival is sponsored by Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the U.S., the Centre National du Cinema et de l'Image Animee, the French American Cultural Fund, Florence Gould Foundation and Highbrow Entertainment.
