Hike covers three trails

Hill 'N Dale Hiking Club will hike at Bayyari Park in Springdale on Thursday.

The hike will explore three trails near the park for a total of 5 miles.

Parks Day welcomes youngsters

The city of Bella Vista will host Kids to Parks Day starting at 9 a.m. Saturday at Blowing Springs Park.

Paula Hixson, a Northwest Arkansas master naturalist, will guide a 1-mile hike to see butterflies and wildflowers on a section of the Back 40 trails.

Kids can also take part in a scavenger hunt and win prizes by answering trivia questions.

State park hosts kids fishing

Kids Fishing Day is set for Saturday at Roaring River State Park near Cassville, Mo.

Anglers 15 and under may fish in an area of the trout stream reserved for the event. Free daily tags may be picked up at the hatchery office near Roaring River spring. Fishing hours are 6:30 a.m. to 8:15 p.m.

Volunteers will be on hand to assist. Kids are encouraged to bring their own fishing gear. There will be seminars all day on fish cleaning, fish cooking, target shooting, archery, hiking and more.

Volunteers are needed to help kids with their fishing. They don't need to be experienced anglers. To volunteer or for more information, call the Roaring River hatchery at 417-847-2430 or email paul.spurgeon@mdc.mo.gov.

Try paddle boats at demo day

The annual canoe and kayak demo day is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 1 at Lake Ann Park in Bella Vista.

Ozark Mountain Trading Company will have several canoes and kayaks on hand for people to test paddle. Paddlers are welcome to test as many boats as they'd like. Paddlers should plan to get wet.

Meador, Hubbard top win

Steven Meador and Mike Hubbard won the Northwest Arkansas Team Trail bass tournament April 28 at Beaver Lake. Their five bass weighed 17.02 pounds.

Rodger Taylor and Brian Rusher placed second with five bass weighing 16.12 pounds. Kirk Sims and Richard Watkins were third with five bass at 15.4 pounds.

Fourth through 10th, all with five bass: fourth, Allen Shannon, Warren Edwards, 15.27; fifth, Justin Hoffman, Tim Clark, 14.49; sixth, Lane Haymond, Eric Douthit, 14.38; seventh, Phil Hanby, Hunter Hanby, 14.26; eighth, Matt Emeterio, Casey Odel, 14.21; ninth, Jeff Lodwick, Brian Lodwick, 14.2; 10th, Jared Gobel, Larry Walker, 14.04.

Duo wins Cast Masters tournament

Hunter Jordan and Hayden Kendall won the Cast Masters bass tournament held May 5 at Beaver Lake. Their five bass weighed 15.06 pounds.

Bo Sorratt and Keith Belford placed second with five bass weighing 13.85 pounds. Fred Foster and Dillon Foster were third with five bass at 13.33 pounds.

Fourth through 10th, all with five bass: fourth, Obie Fields, Brad Gabbard, 13.16; fifth, Allen Westfall, Jeff Swaffer, 12.92; sixth, Ron Sowell, Wes Sowell, 11.89; seventh, Richard Rollins, Preston Scott, 11.64; eighth, Wes Usrey, Terry Anderson, 11.25; ninth, Brian Rusher, Dustin Rogers, 11.14; 10th, David Louks, Collin Cheatham, 11.0.

Fish with a veteran

John W. Brown Fishing with a Vet buddy bass tournament is set for 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 8 at Beaver Lake. One or two veterans must be part of each two-person team.

Entry fee is $70 per boat. First prize is $1,000; second, $700; third, $500; and big bass prize is $200.

Register at Hook, Line and Sinker in Rogers, Southtown Sporting Goods in Fayetteville or Cross Church in Springdale.
