Arkansas woman, 41, dies in crash during police pursuit, authorities say

A 41-year-old woman died while fleeing from law enforcement on Monday after she was thrown from her vehicle in a crash, authorities said.

The crash occurred just before 8 p.m. as Tywanna Angel Gordon of Pine Bluff was being pursued by deputies from the Jefferson County sheriff's office, according to a preliminary report from Arkansas State Police.

Gordon’s vehicle, described in the report as a 2018 Chevrolet, was traveling west on 6th Avenue near Fig Street in Pine Bluff when it left the road, struck several poles, then flipped over and ejected her, police wrote.

Troopers described conditions as clear and dry at the time of the wreck.

The report did not indicate why Gordon was being pursued by deputies. A call to the Jefferson County sheriff’s office was not immediately returned Wednesday morning.

At least 155 people have died so far on Arkansas roads this year, according to preliminary figures.
