Medical pot edibles face restrictions in Arkansas

LITTLE ROCK — Arkansas medical marijuana cultivators who intend to manufacture edibles will face some restrictions on what products they can produce and what those products can look like.

Currently, only the plant's flower is being sold in dispensaries, which are operating for the fifth full day Wednesday. Rules of the Arkansas Alcoholic Beverage Control Board state edibles can't look like foods familiar to children or be packaged in a way that looks like non-marijuana products usually consumed by children.

Department of Finance and Administration spokesman Scott Hardin says inspectors will mostly focus on dispensaries keeping packaging muted and simple.

It's not clear when edibles will be available, what products will be manufactured or how much they'll cost.

About 26 pounds of marijuana had been sold through Tuesday.
