ROGERS -- The city's visitors bureau will give $1 million to the Walmart Arkansas Music Pavilion over the next decade, its director said.

The agency will give the concert venue $100,000 a year for 10 years starting this summer in what J.R. Shaw, executive director, called an unprecedented partnership.

As a sponsor, the Visit Rogers agency will market other events and attractions through the amphitheater in hopes out-of-town concertgoers also will spend time and money elsewhere in the city, Shaw said.

"The [Arkansas Music pavilion] has sold over 700,000 tickets since it opened in 2014. That's a lot of people they're bringing to Rogers," Shaw said.

The money will go toward the amphitheater's planned expansion, said Jennifer Wilson, venue spokesman. The venue will name the east plaza after Visit Rogers, she said.

Venue officials announced in November that they would spend $13.9 million on an expansion to be completed in time for the 2020 summer concert series.
