CENTRAL ARKANSAS 71, HENDRIX 51

Jared Chatham scored a team-high 12 points to lead the University of Central Arkansas to a victory over Hendrix College at the Farris Center in Conway.

Hendrix took a 5-0 lead on a three-pointer by Seth Stanley and a Sean Comman jumper, but UCA got a Chatham layup with 13:26 left in the first half, giving the Bears a 6-5 lead. Brooks Cartwright hit a three-pointer with 10:47 left to give the Warriors an 8-6 lead, but Chatham hit two free throws to tie the game at 8-8 with 10:18 left. Collin Cooper's layup with 10:08 left in the first half gave UCA the lead for good at 10-8.

The Bears shot 41.4% (24 of 58) from the floor, including 5 of 20 on three-pointers, and went 18 of 30 from the free-throw line. They outrebounded the Warriors 45-42, but the Warriors held an 11-8 edge on the offensive glass. Hendrix shot 26.7% (16 of 60) from the floor, including 6 of 28 on three-pointers, and made 13 of 19 free throws.

Eddy Kayouloud scored 11 points and Rylan Bergersen added 10 for Central Arkansas, which plays at Georgetown on Saturday and at No. 4 Duke on Tuesday. Stanley scored a game-high 16 points in the loss for Hendrix, while Comman and Carl Fitch added seven apiece.

The University of Central Arkansas played well early against Tennessee on Thursday, trailing 20-18 at the end of the first quarter, but the Lady Volunteers outscored the Sugar Bears 43-18 in the final three quarters at Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville, Tenn.

UCA took its only lead early in the second quarter when a three-pointer by Hannah Langhi gave the Sugar Bears a 23-22 lead with 9:17 left in the first half. Jordan Horston then hit one of two free throws to tie the game at 23-23, and Zaay Green hit a three-pointer to give Tennessee the lead for good at 26-23 with 8:57 remaining. Horston hit a jumper as time expired to give the Lady Vols a 33-25 halftime lead.

Central Arkansas was held to 25.4% shooting (15 of 59) from the floor and made 2 of 21 three-pointers. The Sugar Bears didn't fare any better from the free-throw line, hitting 4 of 12 attempts. Tennessee shot 50% (29 of 58) from the floor, but hit only 4 of 13 on three-pointers and went 1 for 3 from the free-throw line.

Taylor Sells led UCA with 10 points, while Ayanna Trigg had 6 and Langhi finished with 5. Horston scored a game-high 17 points for Tennessee, and Green finished with 9.
