EDITORIAL: Lights! Camera! Food!

BETWEEN True Detective in northwest Arkansas and Small Business Revolution in Searcy, our beautiful state is getting quite a bit of camera time. And it’s not quite over yet. Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay (that British guy who yells at kitchen subordinates and makes them cry on camera) made a stop in Conway for one of his shows.

The papers say the chef was in town recording for his show 24 Hours to Hell and Back. Funny, we weren’t aware Lucifer was into cooking shows, or that they even had cable television down there. Or if the place did have cable, we figured it’d just have one channel, and it’d be a 24/7 news outlet.

Apparently this cooking show aims to renovate struggling restaurants in 24 hours. Afterward, restaurants typically have a grand re-opening. You know the story. A good time is had by all.

Still, despite giving the world Billy Bob Thornton and Johnny Cash, some of us still get jumpy when we see a star not born here. And over the weekend, Conway folk hopped on Twitter to reveal their excitement about Gordon Ramsay being in town to help renovate a little joint called Bear’s Den Pizza not far from the University of Central Arkansas.

Restaurant crews were tight-lipped, and it makes sense, since there were probably contracts to sign and yadda yadda yadda. But we know he was there. And now a Conway restaurant is going to be on his television show, which is neat.

Hopefully the chef didn’t make any of the cooks cry. Guess we’ll find out when the episode airs in the future.
