Little Rock is accepting online applications for a civilian review board that will examine the actions and investigations of the city's Police Department.

City directors approved an ordinance establishing the Citizens Review Board, a proposal from Mayor Frank Scott Jr., in a divided vote in July.

The application can be found by going to littlerock.gov and finding the "City Hall" tab near the top of the page, then clicking on "City Boards and Commissions."

In addition to filling out the online form, each applicant is asked to upload a cover letter and resume.

The application period closes Dec. 10.

According to the ordinance, the review board will have five members appointed by the mayor who will examine residents' complaints about police protocol or interactions in the areas of corruption, discrimination and use of force. One member is to be actively involved in neighborhood issues, and one is to be selected from nominations made by a business association within the city.

Membership also should reflect the city's demographics, the ordinance states.

In his weekly video update Monday, Scott said the board would give community members a voice in police matters without impeding or interfering with the Police Department's established processes.

"Public safety is our city's top priority, and building and maintaining trust between the Little Rock Police Department and the public is one of the ways we will unite Little Rock," he said.
