Greek Orthodox church adorns tables for a cause

Extravagantly decorated tables awaited guests Oct. 5 at the Annunciation Ladies Philoptochos Society's Festival of Tables.

The event -- held in the grand ballroom of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church -- was a fundraiser for the organization's mission: providing financial resources and other services to those less fortunate. Philoptochos means friends of the poor.

Twenty tables were decorated with various themes -- Halloween, Christmas, fall, the Beatles -- to name a few.

After admiring the tables, the ladies sat down for a luncheon of arugula and halloumi salad, sweet potato zucchini tart, black-eyed peas and Swiss chard and grilled chicken breast prepared by Gabi Abdo. Dessert was a baklava sundae. The food was served by the husbands of society members.

Jeanne Spencer and Becka Masching were co-chairwomen of the event.
