Church to honorex-Methodist pastor

Open Door Community Church, 709 W. Lee Ave., Sherwood, will honor former United Methodist minister Anna Golladay during its Fall Conference, to be held Sept. 20-22.

Golladay, who was a pastor at two United Methodist churches in Chattanooga, Tenn., lost her ministry license last year after officiating a same-sex wedding. She will be honored with the Peggy Campolo Carrier Pigeon Award, named after the wife of author and speaker Tony Campolo, and honoring Peggy Campolo's LGBT advocacy work in the church.

"I think that's what really gives me hope, when [there's] ministers in churches like [Golladay] who have seen the truth of God's love for all LGBT people, and that there should be inclusion in the church," said Randy Eddy-McCain, pastor of Open Door. "That's where change takes place, and I couldn't be more grateful to Anna."

The conference will open at 7 p.m. Friday with a music performance by Ethan and Rachel Waters; and a talk by the Rev. Stan Mitchell, founder of GracePointe Church in Nashville, Tenn.

On Sept. 21, Mitchell will lead a panel discussion, "Is the Church Going Through a New Reformation," at 10 a.m.; the Rev. Jay Bakker, author, speaker and pastor of Revolution Church, will speak at 11:30 a.m.; Sophia Said, executive director of the Interfaith Center in Little Rock, will host an interfaith workshop at 1:30 p.m.

At 7 p.m. Sept. 21, the Rev. Vince Anderson will perform, and the conference will honor Golladay with the award.

Refreshments will be served after each session.
