Do it for the people

With the number of covid-19 cases rising on a daily basis across the nation, and the projected number of positive diagnoses and deaths imminent in every state, what is the harm in calling for a shelter-in-place order for the state of Arkansas? I truly do not understand your team's logic, Governor Hutchinson. Look at the data and wake up!

Precious lives are at stake. As of Tuesday, there were almost 1,500 cases in the state and 32 deaths; more Arkansans are going to die in the coming days/weeks. Look at what's happening now in South Dakota, another state without a shelter-in-place order. It has become one of the nation's covid-19 hot spots. Do you really want the inaction on the part of your administration to be part of your legacy as this state's governor?

It absolutely breaks my heart to sit here and watch the numbers rise every day. Please do the right thing and issue a shelter-in-place order at once. If for no one else, do it for all of those people out there on the front lines in our state; this is the very least they deserve.

Potential voter fraud

John Brummett's column Tuesday--"Help the poor vote? Gasp!"--should have been titled "Full employment scheme for ballot harvesters, ballot-box stuffers and election fixers."

"Absentee ballots remain the largest source of potential voter fraud." That was one of the conclusions of the bipartisan 2005 report of the Commission on Federal Election Reform chaired by former President Jimmy Carter and former Secretary of State James Baker III. If we want a return to elections of the 1830s where party functionaries showed up in towns on election day with a valise full of silver dollars and barrels of whiskey to ensure the thirsty voted "right," then by all means let everybody vote by mail.

What happens to it?

Just wondering what the schools are doing with all the food products (frozen and institutional-sized cans) they have left over. Obviously this type of product cannot be given out to the kids to take home. Hope they give it to the food bank instead of throwing it out this fall when school starts back up.

Question for question

To the writer who demanded proof that God exists, I would ask: Can you prove that God doesn't exist?
