Deadline approaches for Arkansas Grown school garden contest

Sept. 13 is the deadline to apply for the seventh annual Arkansas Grown School Garden of the Year Contest, which showcases Arkansas schools that have developed gardens to support innovative and hands-on learning.

The contest is open to public and private K-12 schools, early care facilities and "alternative-learning environments" that had a school garden during the 2019-20 school year or any school planning to start a garden in 2020-21.

Prizes include $500 each for Best School Garden Start-up Proposal, Best Harvest Partnership Garden, Best Education Based Garden and Best Community Collaboration Garden and $1,000 each for Overall School Garden Winner and "Champion of Sustaining School Garden."

The contest is sponsored by the Arkansas Department of Agriculture and the Farm Credit Associations of Arkansas.

Online entry forms and program requirements are available here. Winners will be formally announced at a Farm to School Celebration in October.
