Inspection is set for bridge on I-55

A routine inspection of the Interstate 55 bridge over the Mississippi River at West Memphis will require alternating lane closings for four days beginning Monday, according to the Arkansas Department of Transportation.

The outside southbound lane on the bridge will be closed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and Tuesday to allow crews to inspect the underside of the bridge and the overhead trusses.

The outside northbound lane will be closed during the same time Wednesday and possibly Thursday because crews may be able to begin inspection earlier, depending on the progress they make on the southbound side, an agency spokesman said.

Traffic will be controlled by cones, signs and police, the department said.
