Two local groups distributed 450 boxes of nonperishable breakfast food items on Dec. 26.

First Sisters Outreach Inc., a 501(c)(3) agency -- in partnership with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Delta Omega Omega Chapter -- distributed the items, according to a news release.

The groups presented the food to the Wabbaseka Community Center at Wabbaseka; New Hope Missionary Baptist Church at Altheimer; Arkansas River Education Service Cooperative at Pine Bluff; and James Matthews Elementary School at Pine Bluff.

"The focus of this breakfast food giveaway was to address the needs of Jefferson County, with community outreach strategies that impacted those affected most by the covid-19 pandemic by supplying families with essential breakfast food items," according to the release.

The event was made possible with grant funding from covid-19 Community Outreach Investment in Communities with High Poverty Rates and Significant Minority Populations. The groups thank all the volunteers who helped with the outreach.
