Church notes: Classes and special events at area churches

Bella Vista Community Church, 75 E. Lancashire Blvd., hosts Lenten soup suppers and meditations in McKay Hall each Wednesday Feb. 26 through April 1. Dinner is served at 5:30 p.m. Meditations begin at 6:20 p.m. Suggested donation is $3 per person or $5 per family.

Bella Vista Lutheran Church, 1990 Forest Hills Blvd., hosts an Inquirer's Class at 9:45 a.m. Sundays with Pastor Paul Hass. This is an opportunity for new members (or current members who want a refresher course) to learn about what it means to be a Lutheran and about Bella Vista Lutheran Church.

At 11:30 a.m. March 3, there will be special worship service for those that are unable to attend a regular worship service. Following the service, a lunch will be served. Call the church office for transportation.

The Men's Bible study group meets on Mondays at 1 p.m. and again at 7 p.m. in the church library. Please use the north entrance. The Sonshiners meet at 9 a.m. Feb. 20, and the Ladies Marathon bridge is at 12:30 p.m. The Quilters meet at 8:30 a.m. Feb. 26.

Ash Wednesday services begin at 6 p.m. Feb. 26.

The Shepherd's Food pantry is open every Friday from 10 a.m. until noon. Along with food items, they are collecting Best Choice PVC labels that they can redeem for items needed in the food pantry. A container for donations is in the church narthex.

First United Methodist Church in Bella Vista, 20 Boyce Drive, begins a nine-week grief support class from 5:30 to 7 p.m. March 10 to share grief and seek healing. Grief is the outpouring of emotion and pain due to loss in our lives. The loss may be as a result of a death, of divorce, of sudden change, or any other of a variety of causes. The journey through grief is different for each circumstance and individual, but in grief support, participants share the journey together. The class will spend time understanding grief, the effects it has on us, and the mourning process that it is as a necessary journey which brings healing. The class provides insight, compassion, support and hope during this difficult time.

Forest Hills Church in Bella Vista, an American Baptist congregation, 1702 Bella Vista Blvd., hosts Ladies' Day Out at 2 p.m. Feb.20 in Fellowship Hall. Bring your favorite pen and scissors and learn all about mail art.

Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rogers, 2305 S. Dixieland Road, hosts Church Council at 7 p.m. Feb. 19. Lenten services begin at 7 p.m. Ash Wednesday, Feb. 26, and will be preceded by a soup and sandwich supper at 6:15 p.m.

Highland Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Bella Vista, 1500 Forest Hills Blvd., hosts the men for breakfast at 8:30 a.m. today in Fellowship Hall. Following the morning service Sunday, there will be a potluck in Fellowship Hall, open to all. On Feb. 18, a Grief Support class is held in Pastor Skip's office.

United Lutheran Church of Bella Vista, 100 Cooper Road, plans an open mic and hymn sing-along at 7 p.m. Feb. 18. The event replaces the scheduled Watoto Choir concert, which has been postponed until sometime this summer.

Members who would like to play or sing a favorite hymn or spiritual may sign up in the narthex or call the church office.

Essentrics movement classes, easy movement to encourage toning, tension release, range of motion increase, muscle strengthening, pain relief and balance enhancement, taught by movement specialist Cindee Johnson, begin at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 17. Six weeks of class cost $50 at first class (payment made to Expressions Beautiful). Everyone is welcome!

Movie Night, featuring the film "The Best of Enemies," starts at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 20. No RSVP needed.
