Social justice award to honor 3 for service

The 2020 William H. Robinson Jr. Social Justice Luncheon will honor three people on Monday with an award recognizing their "outstanding service in the area of faith and justice," focused on their work in the past year, according to a news release.

Dr. O. Jerome Green, president of North Little Rock's Shorter College; Dr. Anika Whitfield, a podiatrist and social activist and James Wilson, a student at McClellan High School, will each be awarded the William H. Robinson Jr. Social Justice Award at Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church, 4823 Woodlawn Drive in Little Rock. The awards are given annually to a faith leader, a community leader and an area youth.

The awards will be given during the luncheon, which will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the church's Wesley Hall.

Black History Month celebrated at event

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 905 Kierre Drive in North Little Rock, will host a free community event in honor of Black History Month from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Feb. 22.

Speakers will include Dr. Sherman Whitfield, Pulaski County School District's director of pupil services; Rhonda Aaron, founder of Sister Friends United Inc.; and Thom Reed, deputy chief genealogical officer for FamilySearch. The day will also include presentations from area community organizations and churches and music.
