Fort Smith police investigate apartment complex shooting

FORT SMITH -- The Police Department is investigating an incident in which shots were reportedly fired at an apartment complex late Monday night or early Tuesday morning.

Department spokesman Aric Mitchell said Tuesday no injuries had been reported. The investigation is ongoing, with no arrests having been made.

Officer Dana Scott was dispatched to 5221 Johnson St. -- Allied Gardens Estate -- Monday for a shots fired call, according to an incident report from Mitchell. A resident told police his window and a van in the parking lot had been shot.

Scott and other officers went to a car wash down the street where the report states a silver Honda and a black Acura were spotted. The driver of the Honda told police he and his friends had just got there and were hanging out with the driver of the Acura. No weapons were found in either of the vehicles.

After arriving back at the complex to investigate futher, the report states police found a silver Acura with five bullet holes. Two holes were on the driver's side back bumper, one hit the trunk and went through the back windshield, one was above the license plate, and another was on the passenger's side back bumper.

The vehicle's owner was found and said he had been talking to a co-worker and her boyfriend didn't like it. The man was taken to the Police Department to be interviewed, with police coming back to the scene to pick up the vehicle and take it the Police Department.

Another person reported a bullet went through a window, a bathroom wall, a bathroom door and into a bedroom at their apartment. Police collected the bullet and submitted it into evidence.
