EDITORIAL: Finally, something to cheer

After all these years, there's a reason to watch the Super Bowl again. Oh, where have you gone, Troy Aikman?

Just think over the last few Februarys: Did anybody in Arkansas care about New England vs. L.A.? And we don't mean Lower Arkansas. Last year's Super Bowl ended 13-3. But even if it would have been a good game, few in flyover country would have cared. Especially after the Gulf Coast Saints were swindled out of the game because of the NOLA no-call.

Philadelphia vs. New England? Atlanta vs. New England? Seattle vs. New England? New York vs. New England? Carolina vs. New England? When was the last time you saw real emotion at a Super Bowl party in Arkansas? Perhaps it was St. Louis vs. Tennessee--20 years ago.

And the last time Dallas was in it, Philly, Tampa, New Orleans, Indianapolis, Baltimore, Seattle and, yes, Denver hadn't yet won a Super Bowl. In fact, the last time Dallas was in the NFL championship game, the Patriots had never won it.

Which might explain why Arkansas is so hyped this year. The Kansas City Chiefs haven't been in the game in 50 years. And its high-flying offense has many hoping for a non-coast Super Bowl winner. Combine that with a boring offensive game plan by the 49ers, and folks in these parts are looking forward to celebrating with the red, gold and white.

Let's go, Chiefs!
