Inquiry underway after body found

Authorities are investigating as a homicide the death of a woman whose body was found in Union County.

The remains were found Tuesday outside in the Wesson area, a subdivision between Parkers Chapel, Three Creeks and Junction City, according to Union County Coroner Stormey Primm.

Primm said the woman was in her 20s and her injuries "are consistent with a homicide." He declined to provide details about those injuries. He said the remains were being sent to the state Crime Laboratory for further investigation.

Initial reports in the case indicated that the woman was pregnant. Primm said he could not confirm that and deferred to the Crime Lab.

Capt. Jeff Stinson, chief investigator for the Union County sheriff's office, confirmed that the agency was investigating the case and said authorities were contacting the woman's family Wednesday.

He said the case is an open investigation, and he provided no additional details.
