Outreach liaisons

join library system

The Central Arkansas Library System hired two community liaisons to assist with outreach to the Hispanic and Black communities, the system said in a news release last week.

The liaisons are Maria Aguilar and Jessica McDaniel. The new positions were approved as part of the library's strategic plan adopted in early 2019.

Aguilar is the community liaison for the Hispanic community. She previously worked as the community outreach specialist for the Department of Community Affairs at the Mexican Consulate in Little Rock. She holds a bachelor's degree in international business from the University of Guanajuato.

McDaniel is the community liaison for the Black community. She has been a Little Rock resident for more than a decade and looks forward to helping the library become a more diverse and inclusive service provider, the release states. She has a bachelor's degree in mass communications from Jackson State University and a master's degree in public administration from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Businesses urged

to join safety push

The Little Rock Convention and Visitors Bureau is urging local businesses to commit to safe practices with the "BIG on Safety" campaign.

By taking the pledge, a Little Rock business declares that it is following guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Arkansas Department of Health to promote social distancing, limit capacity, monitor the health of employees, clean frequently, and encourage face covering and hand sanitizing.

Water utility hires

diversity adviser

Central Arkansas Water is hiring a special adviser to the chief executive officer on diversity, equity, inclusion and engagement, the agency announced in a social media post last week.

The adviser will work across all departments within the Little Rock-area utility and in partnership with various community organizations to "eliminate systemic organizational marginalization and promote inclusive practices" to improve the agency, the communities it serves and the water profession overall.

The utility is seeking someone with knowledge of best practices for organizations striving to become more diverse, equitable and inclusive; knowledge of labor including hiring and recruitment, laws and regulations, and civil rights legislation; and a background managing change in large organizations.
