Being the daughter of a football coach is not always easy.

But Jacey Totty never worried that Rison Coach Clay Totty, who has won two state championships (2000, 2004) at the school, is her father. She embraced it.

"It was motivational," Jacey Totty said. "I see how hard he works. How could I not follow his example?"

That example extended into the classroom.

She had a 4.23 GPA and a 32 on the ACT. She was named an Arkansas Governor's Distinguished Scholar. Totty also was a member of the school's Beta Club; Future Business Leaders of America; Family, Career and Community Leaders of America; Fellowship of Christian Athletes; and Quiz Bowl.

In athletics, Totty took part in cross country, basketball, and track and field.

She kept herself busy during her time at Rison.

"It's all about time management," she said. "It's easy to say, 'I'm tired, I want to go to bed.' But I had to study."

Totty will attend the University of Arkansas at Monticello and plans to major in pre-medicine. She wants to become a dermatologist.

The small-town atmosphere of Rison was one reason why Totty opted to attend UAM, which is located in Monticello.

"I've always grown up in a small town," she said. "At UAM, you're a person and not a number."
