Artist Sarah Higgins unveiled her latest piece "Mallards on the Arkansas River," with an ice cream social at Hill Station in Little Rock's Hillcrest neighborhood July 2. The unveiling was held in conjunction with the district's First Thursday event, promoting local businesses.

The mural is part of the Drain Smart initiative, an art movement that decorates storm drains for public art and to create awareness about conservation and pollution concerns. People often mistakenly think storm drains empty into the municipal sewer system, when in fact, runoff drains directly into local waterways.

This is Higgins' third Drain Smart project. The Hot Springs native has also completed pieces at 17th and Main streets and Kavanaugh Boulevard and University Avenue, the latter mural done in conjunction with her art students from Episcopal Collegiate Academy in Little Rock.
