Tell us about your organization: For Pets' Sake was established in 2007 as a 501(c)3 nonprofit. The rescue works with local shelters and other rescues in Benton and Washington counties to save small dogs, seniors and those that are hurt or sick. Our main goal is to take all hospice patients' dogs into our rescue, if foster is available. The patient is aware of our rescue and is comfortable knowing we will match their dog with a wonderful family. There are a number of owner surrender dogs we will take into the rescue, depending on the owner's circumstance. We are a very small foster-based rescue. The fosters will take the sick, hurt dog into their homes to socialize and de-compress the dogs and get them ready for adoption. The fosters will take the dogs to vet appointments and provide food for the foster dog. The rescue dogs are in a temporary home until we find a permanent family. And in the Senior 4 Senior Program, we match a senior dog with a senior [human] for companionship.

We operate off donations, adoption fees and grants. We have 5,000 followers on our Facebook group, and they are very supportive.

• Mission: For Pets Sake is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization for helping pets and their people.

• Services provided: We provide vet care if a dog is sick or hurt. We will use the emergency clinic after hours when a dog comes into rescue hurt or sick. We fully vet a rescue dog; shots, fecal/heartworm testing, spay or neuter; teeth cleaning if needed; life-time microchip that is registered by the rescue; and first month flea/tick/heartworm prevention. We try to match the dog's personality with the new family and we can provide dog food when needed.

• Who is eligible? We have an adoption application process that's on our website: www.for-pets-sake.org. All applications are reviewed by the board members and then forwarded to the foster. The foster will call the applicant and set up a meet and greet.

• What are your organization's most pressing needs? With the closing of shelters, we have taken in more owner surrender dogs because the owners have lost their jobs and can't afford to keep the dogs, so we are in need of funds and dog food. We have a lot of followers who order dog food from Chewy.com and ship to us.

• Are there volunteer opportunities in your organization? What are they? At this time with the coronavirus we are just staying home, and there are no volunteer opportunities at this time.

• What other ways may people help? Donations of dog food; potty pads; dog beds; money donations for vetting.

• Why do you work or volunteer for a nonprofit organization? Do you have a personal connection to the mission? If so, what is it? I have volunteered for 10 years. It was real hard to go into shelters when I started. My first rescue was scheduled to be euthanized that day because he was so sick. I took him home and to work because he had kennel cough and double pneumonia. Needless to say, he was my first foster failure. I wanted to keep all the dogs and I did; I'm a foster failure since I ended up keeping nine dachshunds.

Growing up, my dad was always helping stray dogs, and when he passed away, I filled the void in my heart with rescuing the dogs. I have always said rescuing feeds my soul! For Pets' Sake is like the attorney for the dogs. We represent them. It's all about finding the dog his/her forever home.
