The shareholder proposals are requests for a report assessing the environmental impacts of single-use plastic bags; for a report assessing strategies to strengthen Walmart's supplier antibiotic use standards for farm animals; for hourly employees to be included on the initial list of candidates for the board of directors; and for a report by Dec. 31 on actions taken to strengthen Walmart's efforts to prevent workplace sexual harassment.

The Bentonville-based retailer's board of directors recommends that shareholders reject the proposals.

Shareholders also will elect 11 director nominees, all of whom currently serve on the board. The nominees are Cesar Conde, Tim Flynn, Sarah Friar, Carla Harris, Tom Horton, Marissa Mayer, Doug McMillon, Greg Penner, Steven Reinemund, Rob Walton and Steuart Walton.
