U.S. 71 motorists face lane closings

Construction and rock blasting to build the new Bella Vista Bypass interchange with U.S. 71 in Bentonville will require overnight lane closings for five days starting Monday, the Arkansas Department of Transportation said.

Crews will alternately close northbound and southbound lanes on U.S. 71 between Interstate 49 and Peach Orchard Road from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. daily through Thursday, weather permitting. The lane closings will be extended to 10 a.m. Friday.

Flagging operations, signs and police enforcement will be used to control traffic, the department said.

The work is part of a $66.6 million project to build about 2.8 miles of roadway with bridges on Arkansas 549, also called the Bella Vista Bypass, as well as the new interchange.
