Weekend accidents on roadways claim the lives of 8 people

Seven people died in wrecks on Arkansas roadways last weekend, and an Arkansas teen died in a wreck in Texarkana, Texas.

Two people were killed Sunday morning in a two-car collision in Lincoln County, state police reported.

Diana Bailey, 34 and William Lynn, 28, both of Star City, were traveling southbound on Interstate 530 in a 1992 GMC Vandura when they were struck by a northbound 2016 Chevrolet Camaro that crossed the centerline, according to a preliminary crash report.

The crash occurred about 1 a.m. near the Lincoln and Cleveland county line.

Lynn, who was a passenger in the GMC, was declared dead at the scene by Lincoln County Deputy Coroner Jimmy Hawkins. Bailey was pronounced dead at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff, state police reported.

The driver of the Camaro was injured in the crash, according to the state police report.

The weather conditions were clear, and the road conditions were wet, according to the report.

Another Arkansas woman suffered fatal injuries Sunday in a Woodruff County crash, state police reported.

Amanda Shea Barker, 28, of Augusta was a passenger in a 2017 Jeep Wrangler traveling south on Arkansas 33 in Woodruff County shortly after midnight when the vehicle missed a curve and left the road, according to a preliminary report from state troopers.

Authorities said the Jeep struck an embankment and overturned. Barker died of her injuries, while the driver and a second passenger were uninjured, the report states.

Troopers described conditions as cloudy and wet at the time of the crash.

Doug Richards, 73, of Little Rock also died when he stepped in front of a 2007 Ford Crown Victoria on Colonel Glenn Road in Pulaski County, according to a preliminary report.

The vehicle was traveling east around 9:19 p.m. when Richards, who was walking south, stepped in front of the vehicle near 7400 Colonel Glenn Road, the report said.

The weather was clear and conditions were dry, according to the report.

An Arkansas teen also was fatally struck and killed Sunday evening by a vehicle in Texarkana, Texas, police said.

The crash happened in the 6800 block of North Stateline Avenue at about 9:40 p.m., according to police. The teenager, who was reportedly walking in the roadway, died at the scene.

Jackson Giles, 20, of Texarkana, Ark., was driving a 2019 BMW south on North Stateline Avenue in Texarkana, Texas, when he struck the 16-year-old teen, according to authorities. Police said the teen got out of another vehicle and ran into the darkness just minutes before the crash.

Giles said the teenager appeared suddenly in his path, and he was unable to stop in time.

The investigation is ongoing, according to police.

Three others died Saturday in wrecks on Arkansas roadways.

A Texarkana man died after his motorcycle left the road and overturned Saturday morning, troopers said.

Kevin Dewayne Johnston, 50, was riding a 2011 Harley-Davidson motorcycle west on Old Post Road in Texarkana shortly before 10 a.m. when he missed a curve, according to a preliminary crash report by state police.

Johnston's motorcycle left the roadway in Miller County and overturned several times, according to the report. Authorities said the man was later pronounced dead.

Weather was clear, and the road was dry at the time of the crash.

A Blytheville man died after a crash Saturday night in Jonesboro, state police reported.

Travis Orr, 29, was driving a 2004 GMC north in the area of Apple and Hester streets shortly after 11 p.m. when he failed to negotiate a right curve, a report states.

Orr's vehicle left the west side of the roadway in Craighead County, the report states, crossed a sidewalk and skidded across a grass yard. Orr's vehicle went airborne and struck an embankment, authorities said.

The report states weather was rainy and roads were wet at the time of the crash.

A Memphis woman died after the car she was riding in left Interstate 430 in North Little Rock and traveled down an embankment Saturday afternoon, troopers said.

Diamond Hoosman, 24, of Memphis was a passenger in a northbound 2016 Toyota Camry when it left the right side of the interstate near Crystal Hill Road in Pulaski County at a high rate of speed about 3:15 p.m., according to a preliminary crash report by state police. Troopers said the car traveled roughly 65 feet down an embankment before coming to rest.

Hoosman and the Toyota's driver, a 40-year-old Dardanelle woman, were ejected from the vehicle through the front window, according to authorities. The driver escaped with injuries, the report states.

Troopers described conditions as cloudy and wet at the time of the crash.
