CROSS COUNTRY

UA releases cross country schedule

FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas men's and women's cross country teams will open and close their seasons in Baton Rouge, but they will miss out on the Chile Pepper.

The Razorbacks have their first meet on Sept. 19 at the SEC Preview in Baton Rouge, and cap the season on Oct. 30 at the SEC Championships hosted by LSU.

Both teams will run Oct. 17 at the Arturo Barrios Invitational, hosted by Texas A&M. The Razorbacks defending SEC and NCAA championship women's team also will run Oct. 3 in the Gabs Creek Classic, hosted by Missouri.

But the Razorebacks won't get to host the Chile Pepper Festival.

The men and women have competed in the Chile Pepper since its inception in 1989, but this year's event will be comprised of only high school teams from four Northwest Arkansas counties. The Chile Pepper is held annually on the Razorbacks' home course in Fayetteville.
