Residents urgently urged to take part in 2020 census

The chairwoman of the local 2020 census effort is urging Pine Bluff residents to be counted.

"We have six days to make sure that Pine Bluff is counted," Mary Liddell, Complete Count Census chairwoman, said in a news release.

"For each person who isn't counted in the 2020 Census, Pine Bluff neighborhoods could miss out on funding for critical public services," she said. "The census can shape many different aspects of our community."

However, late Thursday a federal judge in California blocked the Trump administration from ending the 2020 census count next week instead of Oct. 31 as the bureau had planned.

Liddell said the count could impact health clinics, fire departments, schools, roads and highways. Census results help determine how federal funding flows into the state and in the community each year, she said.

The results determine how many seats in Congress each state gets and the census is mandated by the U.S. Constitution, she said.

"Don't wait. Do it now. Don't let an undercount erase the ones you love. Let's ensure Pine Bluff counts in the 2020 U.S. Census! Tell #20for2020 to complete the census form at www.My2020Census.gov.

"Pine Bluff Complete Count: Can We Count On YOU?" Liddell said.
