U.S. 79-63 Junk Hunt starts Thursday

The fifth annual Highway 79-63 Junk Hunt will be held Thursday through Saturday and stretch through several southeast Arkansas communities, according to a news release.

Junk Hunt organizer Jennifer King doesn’t expect any pandemic-related disruptions because the Junk Hunt lends itself to social distancing, the release said.

The event allows bargain hunters to explore vendors’ wares set up along the route starting at the U.S. 79 exit at Interstate 530 in Pine Bluff and proceeding south along U.S. 79 through the Watson Chapel community, Rison, Kingsland and eventually to Fordyce.

At Fordyce, the route turns east along Arkansas 8 passing through New Edin-burg on its way to Warren. At Warren, the hunt takes two paths, one turns north on U.S. 63 heading back to Pine Bluff through the Cleveland County communities of Rye, Pansy, Rowell, Calmer, Woodlawn and Randall. The second path heads south on Highway 63 through Hermitage and on to Morro Bay.

Masks are required for shoppers and vendors when they can’t social distance.

“If stricter guidelines are put in place by the Arkansas Department of Health or the governor, or if in-person school is canceled, I will make the decision to cancel the Junk Hunt. But at this point, the hunt is on,” King said.

The event is running in conjunction with the separately-organized Bargains For You on 82 which runs through Crossett, Strong and El Dorado. For details, call 870-951-0195.

King urges anyone who would like to participate in the U.S. 79-63 Junk Hunt to promote their sale in the Facebook group. The Pioneer Village at Rison also plans to hold its vendor hub. For details, call Sharon Gray at 870-692-3130 or visit www.clevelandcountyarkansas.com.
