Inmate at Brickeys found dead in cell

A 31-year-old state inmate was found dead in his cell Saturday night at the East Arkansas Regional Unit in Brickeys, according to a news release from the Arkansas Division of Correction.

Anthony Clay, who was serving a seven-year sentence from Jefferson County for theft of property, was found by hanging in his single-person cell by correctional officers. After medical staff members were unable to detect a pulse, Clay was pronounced dead at 10:49 p.m., the release said.

The Arkansas State Police will conduct an investigation into the death, and the Division of Correction will conduct an internal investigation, according to the release.
