2 Arkansan deaths raise toll on state roads to 4 for 2021

Two more Arkansans died in traffic crashes Friday night, raising the number of deaths on state roadways on the first day of the year to four, according to Arkansas State Police fatal crash summaries.

Richard Bailey, 68, of Little Rock was traveling north on Interstate 530 in Saline County when his 1999 Buick Regal struck a cable barrier on the left side of the roadway near mile marker 11, according to the summary.

His vehicle then struck two trees, according to the summary. The crash occurred about 10:30 p.m.

Saline County Deputy Coroner Greg Lucas pronounced Bailey dead at midnight Friday, according to the summary.

Also Friday, Julianna Valle, 21, of Farmington was killed in a crash in Jonesboro, a state police summary report said. Valle was a passenger in a 2020 Toyota Highlander driven by Devonte Stanback, 28, of Wynne, according to the summary.

Stanback lost control of the SUV in wet conditions about 8:15 p.m. while driving north on Harrisburg Road in Jonesboro, according to the summary.

The vehicle traveled up an embankment, then hit a utility pole, a brick fence and the side of an apartment complex before coming to rest in the complex's yard, according to the summary.

Passengers Darian Nauden and two minors were injured in the crash and were taken to St. Bernards Regional Medical Center for treatment, according to the summary.
