The Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas, 701 S. Main St., seeks submissions to its Irene Rosenzweig Biennial Juried Exhibition for 2021.

The deadline to enter is 11:59 p.m. June 6. The exhibition runs July 22 through Oct. 6, according to a news release.

The exhibition is open to artists 18 or older who live in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee or Texas.

Accepted art forms are: Painting, paintings, drawings, original prints, fiber art, ceramics, sculpture and photography. The cost is $20 per entry, with a maximum of five entries per artist.

Prizes will be awarded for Best in Show ($1,000); first place ($500); second place ($200); along with three $100 merit prizes and $2,000 available in purchase awards.

Artists will be notified of their acceptance status between June 14 and June 18. The center will accept works shipped or hand-delivered from July 12 through July

16.

This exhibition is an opportunity for established and new artists to gain recognition, earn prizes, and for the Arts & Science Center to grow its Permanent Collection, according to the release.

“Rosenzweig is a fantastic opportunity for artists of Arkansas and bordering states to showcase innovative artworks,” said the center’s curator, Chaney Jewell. “During the previous Rosenzweig exhibition, I was amazed by the range of subject matter, mediums and techniques represented by artists”

The long-running Rosenzweig exhibition is made possible through a 1992 endowment from the Irene Rosenzweig Foundation.

Rosenzweig was born in Pine Bluff on July 26, 1903, to Pauline Sarason-Rosenzweig and William M. Rosenzweig.

“She was highly educated and fluent in French, German, Spanish, Latin and Greek,” according to the release. “She earned an undergraduate degree in classical studies from Washington University, and a doctoral degree from Bryn Mawr College. The American Academy in Rome awarded her a classical studies and archaeology fellowship in 1930. Afterward, she tutored President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s family members.”

Rosenzweig died in 1997 in Pine Bluff. She left the gift to the Arts & Science Center, The Irene Rosenzweig Endowment Fund Inc., which supports the exhibition in her name and includes purchase awards for the center’s Permanent Collection.

The exhibition opens July 22 with awards announced at 5:30 p.m. at the center and via social media (facebook.com/asc701 and instagram.com/asc701). The exhibition closes Oct. 16.
