UALR’s top-two scorers opt out

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock women’s basketball team returned Friday night after a 20-day hiatus without two of its most crucial contributors.

Coach Joe Foley confirmed following UALR’s 55-50 loss to Texas-Arlington that leading scorers Bre’Amber Scott and Brianna Crane have opted out of the remainder of the season. Foley declined further comment.

The news came as the Trojans played their first game since Jan. 2 following a covid-19 outbreak within the program. UALR had a short bench of only 10 available players Friday.

“They’ve opted out,” Foley said. We’ve got one with covid, as well. We’ll see if she’ll be back next week. Hopefully we’ll be back to 11 kids next week.”

Scott — who played at Little Rock’s Central and transferred to UALR after two seasons at Mississippi State — averaged a team-high 18.0 in nine games this season. Crane, a transfer from Murray State, was scoring 14.1 points per game before UALR’s schedule was disrupted earlier this month.
