TIDBITS: Wilson to host cooking competition

The city of Wilson in Mississippi County is accepting applications for the Wilson Culinary Chef Competition for young professionals.

The competition will take place April 20-22 and feature six contestants. Each contestant will prepare a "two-course signature dish-tasting menu" featuring an appetizer or salad and an entree.

Contestants will be judged on creativity, cooking technique and professionalism. Prizes are $1,500 cash for first place; $750 for second place and a possible apprenticeship at Restaurant Wilson Cafe and Tavern and Grange at Wilson Gardens.

The contest is open to Arkansas chefs only (those currently living in, working in or born in the state).

To enter, contestants are to submit a short essay (written or video) answering the questions "Why do you love the food industry and what are your goals, current and future, within the hospitality industry? and Why would you like an opportunity to compete in this competition?"
