Traffic crashes claim 5 lives

Five people died in traffic crashes since Sunday, according to reports from the Arkansas State Police.

A child died Sunday afternoon when the 2005 Silverado truck in which he was a passenger hydroplaned on Interstate 49 in Springdale and struck a large sign support, according to a state police report. Another child was injured.

A 49-year-old Dermott man died in a one-vehicle crash on U.S. 165 in Gillett early Monday, according to a report.

Louis Proby was driving a 2002 Buick on U.S. 165 when he lost control and the car left the roadway and overturned, the report said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Road conditions at the time of the crash were clear and dry, the report said.

A Hot Springs woman died and four people were injured Monday afternoon in a four-vehicle crash on Thornton Ferry Road in Hot Springs, according to a state police report.

Leslie Ann Roberts, 32, was driving north in a 2009 Mercury when she crossed the centerline and struck the front of a 2005 Ford and then the rear of a 1997 Mercury before overturning. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gary Adkins, 75; Donna Marie Adkins, 64; James Dodd, 78; and Barbara Dodd, 75; all of Hot Springs, were injured in the crash.

The report said conditions at the time of the crash were clear and dry.

Two people died and three others were injured in a six-vehicle crash Tuesday morning on U.S. 67 in Cabot, according to a state police report.

Phyllis Kerr, 70, of North Little Rock and Clayton Meharg, 97, of Letona were in a southbound 2021 Toyota Camry when they were hit from behind by a 2001 Freightliner tractor-trailer, the report said. The Camry then struck a 2020 Dodge, a 2013 Ford Fusion and 2019 Highlander, according to the report.

The Highlander then collided with a 2015 Toyota Prius, the report said.

Suzanne Bennett, 61, of Judsonia; Alaya Spivey, 26 of Beebe; and a child were injured, the report said.

Conditions were clear and dry at the time of the crash, according to the report.
