• Eddie Murphy was inducted into the NAACP Image Awards Hall of Fame in a virtual ceremony Saturday night, with the honor bestowed by his longtime friend and frequent co-star Arsenio Hall. "I've been making movies for 40 years now ... 40 years. This is the perfect thing to commemorate that and be brought into the Hall of Fame," said Murphy. "Thank you very much. I'm very moved." The actor-comedian went on to send a message to Hall about Murphy's famous red leather suit from his 1983 stand-up special "Delirious." "My red suit was not that tight, Arsenio," Murphy said. "I get a lot of cracks about that red suit. When I was rocking that red suit, that (expletive) was fly." Murphy began his career as a stand-up comic as a teenager and joined the cast of "Saturday Night Live." He starred in the box-office hit "48 Hours" and continued to make his mark in films including "Beverly Hills Cop," "Coming to America," "The Nutty Professor," "Dr. Dolittle" and "Dolemite Is My Name." His latest, "Coming 2 America," was released on Amazon this month. Also on Saturday, the late Chadwick Boseman won best actor in a motion picture for his role in "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom." Boseman, who also starred in the blockbuster Marvel film "Black Panther," died at 43 last year after battling colon cancer. "As always, he would give all honor and glory to the most high God," said a teary-eyed Simone Ledward Boseman, the actor's wife. "He would thank his mom and dad. And he would give honor to his ancestors as we now honor him. Thank you, NAACP, for always giving him his flowers. He was an uncommon artist and an even more uncommon person." Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James received the President's Award for his public service achievements. DJ D-Nice took home entertainer of the year. And Michelle Obama presented Stacey Abrams with the first Social Justice Impact award for her voting-rights work in Georgia.

• Steven William Johnson, the drummer for Grammy Award-winning rock band Alabama Shakes, is in custody on child-abuse charges. The 35-year-old was arrested last week after being indicted on charges of willful torture, willful abuse and cruelly beating or otherwise willfully maltreating a child, news outlets reported. Johnson was jailed in Limestone County, Ala., with bail set at $21,500 and arraignment set for April 7. It was not clear if he has an attorney, and managers for the band did not respond to a request for comment. Johnson pleaded guilty in March 2020 to violating a domestic violence protection order and received a suspended sentence of a year in jail, with 24 months of probation. The Athens, Ala.-based band has been on hiatus since 2018, when lead singer Brittany Howard decided to focus on her solo project.
