I-30 lanes downtown to close next weekend

Motorists should be prepared for significant delays next weekend with the closure of Interstate 30 westbound from the north terminal interchange at Interstate 40 to Broadway in North Little Rock, the Arkansas Department of Transportation said in a news release.

All I-30 westbound lanes between the stretch of highway will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. May 24.

Local traffic to downtown North Little Rock will use I-40 to detour to Pike Avenue (Exit 152). Through traffic will use I-40 to detour to I-440 (Exit

159) or I-430 (Exit 153).

“This single weekend closure will reduce the number of lane closures required by approximately two weeks, thereby reducing risk and exposure to motorists as well as construction personnel” the release said.

The project, which includes demolishing the existing westbound bridge, will cause a couple of other delays during the same time period next weekend.

The southbound frontage road on-ramp at Curtis Sykes to I-30 westbound will be closed during the project. Traffic will detour westbound on Curtis Sykes Drive and take Main Street south to Broadway and the I-30 westbound on-ramp.

The I-30 eastbound left lane will be closed between the river and Bishop Lindsey Avenue starting at 8 p.m. Friday and continuing until 5 a.m. May 24.

A series of I-30 lane closures starting Monday in Little Rock and North Little Rock will lead up to the weekend closure.

These include: Monday-Wednesday: Closure of northbound frontage road and Sixth Street from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Monday-Friday: Closure of Fourth Street intersections with Rock Street and River Market Avenue from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. That includes sidewalk closures at the intersections.

Monday-Thursday: I-40 eastbound and westbound overnight single-lane closures from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. The closures include the westbound lane closed between North Hills Boulevard on-ramp and the I-30 westbound overpass. The eastbound lane will be closed between the I-40/I-30 split and the merge from I-30 eastbound.

Monday-Thursday: I-40 westbound ramp from 8 a.m. to 5 a.m. This includes overnight left-lane closures between the I-40/I-30 split to the I-30 westbound merge.

Monday-Tuesday: I-30 eastbound from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. with overnight lane closures between the south terminal and I-630. Work will include single-lane and double-lane closures. Double-lane closures will be limited to 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. On Monday, double-right lane closures will require closing Exit 139 to Roosevelt Road and closing the Roosevelt Road on-ramp to eastbound I-30. Detour ramps will be signed.

Wednesday-Thursday: I-30 westbound from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. overnight lane closures between I-630 and the south terminal. Work will include single-lane and double-lane closures. Double-lane closures will be limited from 9 a.m. to 7 a.m. Wednesday night double-right lane closures will require the closing of Exit 139A to Roosevelt Road.
