Arkansas Tech wins GAC title

Tymber Riley hit a two-run home run and Maddy Prough allowed one run to help Arkansas Tech University win the Great American Conference softball tournament championship with a 5-1 victory over Southeastern Oklahoma on Saturday night at Tiger Athletic Complex in Bentonville.

It was the third consecutive GAC tournament championship for Arkansas Tech (28-16-1), which defeated Southern Arkansas University in the semifinals earlier Saturday to reach the title game.

Riley's home run in the fourth inning extended the Golden Suns' lead to 4-0.

Prough scattered 7 hits, walked 3 and struck out 1 in 7 innings to improve to 9-5 this season.

Paty Loredo went 3 for 4 with a double for Arkansas Tech.

TRACK AND FIELD

ASU men, women win Sun Belt titles

The Arkansas State University men's and women's track and field teams won the Sun Belt Conference outdoor track and field championships Saturday at Jaguar Track in Mobile, Ala.

The ASU women captured their second consecutive Sun Belt outdoor title, while the men earned their second outdoor title in the past three conference meets.

On the men's side, ASU finished with 164 points, 32 points ahead of host South Alabama. The women won with 139 points, 26.5 ahead of the Jaguars.

Bennett Pascoe won the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:45.31, and Lexington Hilton came in first in the 5,000 run, clocking in at 14:10.79.

Babette Vandeput won the second conference discus title of her career with a personal-best throw of 176 feet, 5 inches.

Up next for ASU is the NCAA West Prelims on May 26-29 at E.B. Cushing Stadium in College Station, Texas.
