ROGERS -- City Council member Clay Kendall will face three challengers in his campaign for reelection.

The filing period ended at noon Wednesday.

Kendall is the council's Ward 3, Position 1 member, which serves the southwest part of town. He has been on the council since 2012.

Vonnice Boone, Rachel Crawford and Trey Weaver also filed for election to the seat.

Crawford is chairwoman of the city's Planning Commission. She has been a commission member for four years.

This year, four Position 1 seats are up for election in Rogers. Council members serve four-year terms.

Mandy Brashear, who holds the Ward 1, Position 1 seat, is unopposed. Ward 1 serves the northeast part of the city, including downtown.

Gary Townzen, council member in the Ward 2, Position 1 seat, also didn't draw an opponent. Ward 2 represents the northwest area of Rogers.

Barney Hayes has been the council's Ward 4, Position 1 member since 2017. He will face Richard Labit in the election. Ward 4 represents southeast Rogers.

Hayes was elected to the council in 1998 and served until 2010. He left the council when he was hired as the Parks Department director. Hayes left that position in 2015. He was appointed to the council in April 2017 after council member Sam Jeffery died. Hayes resigned from a seat on the Benton County Quorum Court he took by appointment to rejoin the council and was elected to the council in 2018.

Kendall was appointed to the council in June 2012 after council member Larry Daniel died. He was elected to the position in 2012 and reelected in 2018.

Rogers' population grew from 55,964 to 69,908 from 2010 to 2020, nearly a 25% increase, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. The city's estimated current population is 71,112, according to census data.

Council members are each paid $13,416 per year, regardless of attendance. The positions are nonpartisan.

The general election is Nov. 8. Early voting begins Oct. 24.
