3 slayings confirmed in 11 Little Rock-area shootings over 28-hour period

Three people were shot and killed in or near Little Rock during a series of 11 shootings between 1:37 p.m. Saturday and 5:14 p.m. Sunday, according to a late Sunday press release from Arkansas State Police.

The Little Rock Police Department, Arkansas State Police and the Pulaski County sheriff’s office are jointly investigating the shootings, which they said left three other people wounded. Those three people were still being treated as of Sunday night.

Law enforcement said they were working to determine if the shootings may have a connection.

The three shootings with reported fatalities:

* Saturday, 7:20 p.m., one victim in the 900 block of South Rodney Parham Road.

* Sunday, 12:58 p.m., one victim near the intersection of Frazier Pike and 3M Road.

* Sunday, 5:14 p.m., one victim inside a convenience store at 6500 Mabelvale Cutoff.

The convenience store shooting also left one person critically wounded. The other shootings reported during the 28-hour period:

* Saturday, 1:37 p.m., no injuries at 9401 Mabelvale Cutoff.

* Saturday, 1:53 p.m., one wounded at 4022 Frazier Pike.

* Sunday, 2:39 p.m., one injured at Interstate 30 eastbound and 65th Street.

* Sunday, 2:44 p.m., one injured at Interstate 440 northbound near Springer Street.

* Sunday, shortly before 3 p.m., no injuries in a series of at least three shootings beginning at Interstate 630 westbound near the Big Rock interchange, followed by an incident near I-630 and Shackelford Road, then moving toward the intersection of Markham Street and Bowman Road.

* Sunday, approximately 4 p.m., no injuries at 13111 W. Markham Street.

The release stated that two individuals were taken into custody after a pursuit involving state troopers on Sunday at 5:45 p.m. near Roosevelt Road and State Street. The two people are believed to be connected to at least one of the shootings, police said.

8:47 p.m.: At least 1 person killed in series of Pulaski County shootings; vehicle sought

At least one person is dead in a series of four shootings in the Little Rock area on Sunday, and police are asking for the public’s help in finding a vehicle that they say may have been used in one of the shootings, which are being investigated as related.

The Pulaski County sheriff’s office posted a picture of a white four-door sedan with tinted windows and a sunroof at about 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

The person driving the vehicle is wanted for questioning in a fatal shooting that occurred Sunday on Frazier Pike and 3M Road.

Lt. Cody Burke said the victim is believed to be in his 60s and was in the “area at the time of the shooting.”

The victim’s name hasn’t been released. Burke said the investigation is still ongoing and there are few details about the shooting or the suspect for now.

“We’re trying to use witnesses to figure out what may be the motive, if this was just some random person, or if he knew the victim,” Burke said.

Burke said it was one of several shootings under investigation that occurred Sunday in or near Little Rock.

7:56 p.m.: Series of shootings reported Sunday around Pulaski County

Authorities are investigating several shootings that occurred in close proximity around Pulaski County on Sunday.

According to a tweet posted a little after 5:30 p.m. Sunday by the Little Rock Police Department, officers were working with Arkansas State Police and the Pulaski County sheriff’s office to determine if the shootings are related. 

Lt. Cody Burke said police were trying to pinpoint when the shootings occurred, saying that it’s unusual for “those many shootings to occur within several hours within each other.”

“It could be coincidental or it could be random people, but we’re looking at all the places it occurred, the time frame, if it could be related, and using witnesses to see if it all ties together,” Burke said.

The Little Rock police lieutenant said the investigation was ongoing as of Sunday night and there were no other details to share: “We have no idea at this point.”

6:55 p.m.: Series of shootings reported Sunday in, around Little Rock

Multiple law enforcement agencies are investigating a series of shootings Sunday in or near Little Rock, according to a Little Rock Police Department tweet.

Little Rock police say they're working with Arkansas State Police and the Pulaski County sheriff’s office to determine if the shootings are related.

“We will continue to monitor them and update any information whenever it is available,” the tweet says.
