George Wilson Walker, Sr.
Jacksonville, AR, 1934 - 2010GEORGE WILSON WALKER SR., 76, of Jacksonville died Friday, July 30, 2010. He was born April 11, 1934 in McConnellsburg, Pa. to the late Edgar Walker and Laura Mae Hughes Walker. Mr. Walker was a Methodist and served his country in the United States Air Force, retiring after 26 years at the rank of Master Sergeant. He served two regular tours of duty in Vietnam and several shorter deployments there. After his military career, he was involved with the Jacksonville Boys Club for more than 20 years as Assistant Director and then Director and was inducted into the Jacksonville Boys Club Hall of Fame in 1995. He loved sports of all kinds. Mr. Walker played all types of sports and was the Williamsport High School Running Back of the Year in 1952. He later coached many sports and led several young people to military service. Mr. Walker also enjoyed hunting and fishing as well as his garden and reading the Bible. He established programs at the Boys Club such as ceramics, art and woodworking. Mr. Walker was proud of his home town of Williamsport, Pa. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Beatrice and Caroline. Mr. Walker is survived by his children Dwight C. Walker of Cincinnati, Ohio, Elroy Walker and his wife Theresa of Madison, Ala., Nadine Medford and her husband Donny of Dallas, Texas, Sophia Walker and Angie Veasley, both of Jacksonville, George Walker and his wife Ronni of Holland, Mich., Chad Walker and his wife Rhonda of Conway and Hugh Walker and his wife Misty of Jonesboro. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren as well as a brother, Robert Walker of Williamsport, Pa. An informal Celebration of George's Life will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 2, 2010 at Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home in Jacksonville.
