Raymond Earl Scogin

Raymond Earl Scogin, 62, of Warren, passed away Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at his home. He was born October 30, 1947 in Drew County. He was a retired teacher and coach, having coached basketball for 35 years and was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. He touched many your mens lives during his coaching career. He coached at Warren for 19 years and was inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame in Warren in May 2010. During his 35 years of coaching basketball, he coached at Harrison, Drew Central, Carlisle, Little Rock Central and Warren. He won a State Tournament at Drew Central. He was a avid duck hunter and golfer. Raymond was the son of the late Garvin E. Scogin and Beatrice Miles Scogin and was preceded in by a brother, David Scogin. Survivors include his wife, Glenda Chambers Scogin of Warren; one son, Trent Scogin and wife, Meghan of Monticello; one daughter, Michele Scogin Dodson and husband, Kavan of Monticello; one brother, Vernon Scogin and wife, Ann of Claremore, Okla.; three sisters, Betty Hammers and Pauline Bostian and husband, Bobby, all of Green Hill and Merle Melancon and husband, Al of Vicksburg, Miss.; one granddaugher, Mia Ruth Scogin. Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Friday at Stephenson-Dearman Chapel, with burial in Rock Springs Cemetery. Visitation 6-8 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.
