Basil L.C. Smith

Basil L.C. Smith of Sheridan, Arkansas was born, December 22, 1922, at Grapevine, Arkansas, the son of the late Lonnie and Ella Smith Smith. He was a member of Hope Pentecostal Church in Sheridan, was a World War II United States Navy Veteran, and was retired from Little Rock National Cemetery. Mr. Smith was an avid hunter and fisherman, was an honorary member of Smith-Taylor Hunting Club and was a member of Old River Fishing Club in Scott. He was also a member of the American Legion. Mr. Smith died Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at his home in Sheridan, at the age of 87. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy Williams Smith; a son, Hershel Smith, and a brother, Harvey Smith. Survivors include his sons, DeWayne and wife Ruth Smith of Jacksonville and Charles Edward Smith of Sheridan; daughter, Linda and husband Raymond Derrick of Sheridan; brothers, Luther, Othel and Dewitt Smith, all of Sheridan; Sister, Wilma Moring of White Hall; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, August 7, 2010 at Hope Pentecostal Church in Sheridan, with Bro. Keith Pennington and Bro. Larry Swiger officiating.
